Meet our guitar slinger/player, singer of lead and backing vocals, and player of the
tambourine...man; Tom Ryan...
|
Tom has been an AMAZING addition to the core of The ByrdBrains. Hailing
from Wisconsin, he has one of those lives and general mindsets that we
all envy, though his work ethic often borders on humiliating – always
first to volunteer his efforts, talents and services, he is also a
prolific songwriter and, in fact, penned the first ByrdBrain original
that will appear on the first ByrdBrain CD.

1. Favorite All Time Band?
Every one I’ve ever heard or seen!
How do I pick one. I grew up with Crosby , Still Nash & Young,
Souther , Hillman Furay, The James Gang!
More recently blown away by Michael Franti & Spearhead. Oh yeah!
I can’t forget the ByrdBrains.
2. Favorite All Time Movie?
Without a doubt Martin Scorsese’s greatest work…The last
Waltz.
3. Favorite All Time Actor?
Pee Wee Herman. Aw Cmon! The Hamburger Man, The
Playhouse (Which my daughter still doesn’t forgive me for making her
watch with me every Saturday morning) The big adventure..
4. Favorite All Time Actress? Can’t say I have one.
5. Favorite
All Time Musician? David Crosby for sure! I’ve never been touched more than
his playing my request at a small venue in Denver in the mid 80’s. I’ve
seen him with Nash, CSN, and CSNY and have never been disappointed.
6. Favorite All Time Musical Instrument company?
Anyone who provides, and/or makes instruments for our
children to play;
though I must admit I hold a special place in my heart for Vox Amps.
6 & 12-string Guitars, keyboards, tambourine, lead
& backing vocals.
Tom comes to the ByrdBrains via parts unknown, and it took him a long
time to get here from there. With brilliant harmonies, and an uncanny
knack to be able to watch Rich (TBP) sing and play bass in total
amazement, all while playing his 6-string Washburn D21S, his 12-string
Simon & Patrick S&P Spruce, and his red PRS Custom 24 through a way cool
Vox Valvetronics Amp.
Inner Thoughts: ( I chuckle to myself as I quote David
Crosby) “I felt like letting my freak flag fly” I knew I had all this
hair for a reason!
There’s nothing in the world like the feeling I get when the harmonies
blend just right! It sends chills down my spine. I know the audience
will feel it too. Tom Ryan
